Dancing
Massage Therapist
Anne
Mulvaney is a choreographer, performer, dance teacher,
licensed massage therapist, and mother dedicated to
living through the creative, expressive, performing,
meditative, and somatic arts.
As
an artist and teacher, my work specializes in 'Dance
as a Healing Art', an integration of modern dance,
authentic movement, contact improvisation, ideokinesis,
visual art, and natural sound. My workshops guide
people in dynamic alignment through movement, imagery,
and character play.
As
a performer, I explore dance through my whole body
in nature, space; in relations to others; contact,
and in time. I explore words, ideas, emotions, eros
and landscapes. This venture has lead me into professional
modern dance venues, and site specific pieces in NYC
and throughout the Hudson River Valley; where I collaborate
with Upriver Downtown Dance Company. My deepest inspiring
mentors have been Anna Halprin, Nancy Topf, and Sondra
Loring.
I
am also a certified Pilates mat instructor, yoga teacher,
and personal trainer. I have 10 years of massage practice
with extensive training in both eastern and western
modalities so that I may discern through my senses
the optimal techniques available to guide my clients
toward holistic health. My dance practice informs
my massage practice; I am dancing and I am dancing
with the person on which I am working.
Currently,
I live in Woodstock and have a private massage practice
in Tivoli where I co-produce events with Kathleen
involving dance, ritual, theater, and play at Somatic
Studio's Barn, and in nature.
